“An Evocation of Japan” is an exhibition held in concordance with the new issue of PARIS, LA that is for the first time a special TOKYO FASHION issue. The choice of the city of Tokyo was stimulated by its geographical context, combined with the radical conceptual dimension of Japanese designers. Dorothée Perret, founder and editor of PARIS, LA, asked long time contributors to create a piece of work. The exhibition gathers a selection of creative friends—artists, poets, stylists, graphic designers—to create an original work that evokes Japan, in the keen spirit of PARIS, LA.

A nice range of colors along the canal on the east side next to the London Fields.

For the new PARIS, LA #4 poster the American author ARIANA REINES turns the YSL MANIFESTO itself into a poem, taking the words as her own, transforming it into an intimate declaration of “Resolute Elegence”.

As a end result, ten different versions of the poster have been realized. All coming from the orginal Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto #6.

On top, the movie describes the printing process of the poem, in one abricot color ink silkscreen.

At the bottom features the ten diffrent versions of this amazing collaboration, between YSL, ARIANA REINES, and PARIS, LA.

Summer 2010

On the POSTER — LOST AND FOUND MANIFESTO, a tribute to the YSL woman by ARIANA REINES. On WRITING — LE RÊVE DE D’ALEMBERT, Marie Jager’s collages, accompanied by an 18th century dialogue on the theory of materialism by Diderot, create an abstract piece of poésie. On SOUVENIR — Bettina HUBBY recalls, with SEMIOTEXTE co-editors Hedi El Kholti and Chris Kraus, 10 years of art in LA’s CHINATOWN GALLERY SCENE; followed by A PORTRAIT OF PICO AVENUE, LOS ANGELES 2000-2005 by the artist AMY YAO. On ART— I’M STILL GAME: DOROTHY IANNONE reveals to Trinie Dalton the lioness inside her that once defeated the U.S. Government. On MUSIC — Clovis Goux meets French musician CHLOÉ on the occasion of her new album One in Other. On FASHION — HAIDER ACKERMANN—the hope of French fashion—speaks about Paris, Anvers, family, and friends; followed by DEAR ME, a story about seduction, sex-appeal, and self-love!
