In conjunction with the exhibition JUDSON DANCE THEATER—THE WORK IS NEVER DONE, members of the Stephen Petronio Company* will reconstruct Jag Vill Gärna Telefonera, the 1964 dance by Judson founding member Steve Paxton, as well as Paxton’s improvisation set to Glenn Gould’s rendition of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

SIMONE FORTI’S DANCE CONSTRUCTIONS

In conjunction with the MOMA exhibition on Judson Dance Theater, performances of SIMONE FORTI DANCE CONSTRUCTIONS will continue at the museum through early next year.

“Made from inexpensive materials, including plywood and rope, each construction prompts actions such as climbing, leaning, standing or whistling. Simultaneously sculptures and performances, the works were first presented at Reuben Gallery and in Yoko Ono’s loft, both in New York City.”*

Works performed include ACCOMPANIMENT FOR LAMONTE’S 2 SOUNDS and LAMONTE’S 2 SOUNDS, CENSOR, HUDDLE, PLATFORMS, and SLANT BOARD.

Forti’s DANCE CONSTRUCTIONS are performed at MOMA on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, and 3:30 pm for the duration of the Judson Dance Theater exhibition.

JILL JOHNSTON DANCING

In 1963 and 1964, Andy Warhol captured dancer-choreographers Lucinda Childs, Yvonne Rainer, and Freddy Herko, and Village Voice dance critic Jill Johnston with his Bolex—performing in lofts, on rooftops, and at Judson.

These cinematic time capsules will be screened this weekend and next at the Whitney, and in early December at MOMA.

The films include Jill Johnston Dancing, Freddy Herko, Jill and Freddy Dancing, Lucinda Childs, and Shoulder.
