This weekend, Engadin Art Talks presents LONGUE DURÉE, a 12-hour stream gathering the ideas, thoughts, projects, and performances of nearly fifty artists, architects, designers, writers, scientists, and curators.

Theaster Gates’ participatory exhibition THE BLACK IMAGE CORPORATION—a show dedicated to the legacy of the Johnson Publishing Company (Ebony and Jet)—is now up at Gropius Bau.

Michigan Avenue In Full Bloom (2018), a video shot in Chicago by Gates, “documenting the real architectural spaces where the offices were located, will be displayed in the show. The audience is invited to freely explore this visual archive and leave their own selection and compilation of photographs on the cabinets for other visitors to encounter. [In addition] Vaginal Davis, Mac Folkes, and Wu Tsang will each choose their own way of engaging with the presented works.”*

SUDDEN RISE—co-written by Wu Tsang, boychild, and Fred Moten—is the New York City performance debut of the ensemble Moved by the Motion.

This “collage” of text, film, movement, and sound is complemented by the words of Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, Hannah Arendt, W.E.B. Du Bois and Jimi Hendrix.

MADE IN L.A. 2014 OPENS AT THE HAMMER

Made in L.A. 2014 opens this Sunday June 15th. It is The Hammer’s biennial exhibition featuring 35 artists. The exhibition is curated by Connie Butler and Michael Ned Holte. There will be a hardcover catalogue and free public programs throughout the summer until the exhibition closes on September 7th.
