L.A. DANCE PROJECT AT THE WALLIS

The Los Angeles company premieres of Benjamin Millepied’s SARABANDE and Ohad Naharin’s YAG are among the highlights of L.A. Dance Project’s spring season at The Wallis.

Also on the bill: the three Graham pas de deux that make up MARTHA GRAHAM DUETS, and HELIX, choreographed by Justin Peck and set to music by Esa-Pekka Salonen.

For SARABANDE, Devan Jaquez (flute), and Fabiola Kim (violin) will accompany the dancers onstage.

This weekend L.A. Dance Project hosts an Open Studios rehearsal, as well as the Flax Foundation’s DIALECTIC OF THE STARS program BODIES 2, featuring a screening of Naotaka Hiro’s THE PIT (DANCER WITH GOLDEN LIPS), and a performance by Noé Soulier.

LACDC — RIFT

New work by L.A. Contemporary Dance Company artistic director Genevieve Carson, Szalt dance company founder Stephanie Zaletel, and L.A. Dance Project star Nathan Makolandra will be showcased in RIFT, LACDC’s upcoming engagement at the Odyssey, weekends two and three of the theater’s 2018 dance festival.

The company will present an encore performance of RIFT at El Camino College in March, 2019, danced by Christian Beasley, Genevieve Carson, Hyosun Choi, Kate Coleman, Lenin Fernandez, Jamila Glass, Tess Hewlett, JM Rodriguez, Ryan Ruiz, Drea Sobke, and Tiffany Sweat.

L.A. DANCE PROJECT — MILLEPIED PREMIERES

The L.A. Dance Project–company-in-residence at The Wallis for 2017-2018—is tripling down for its fall season, with three Los Angeles premieres of work by choreographer and artistic director Benjamin Millepied: IN SILENCE WE SPEAK and ORPHEUS HIGHWAY, both from 2017, and CLOSER, a 2006 piece with music by Philip Glass.

In addition, the company will dance the U.S. premiere Noé Soulier’s SECOND QUARTET, which features music by the choreographer and Flemish DJ Tom De Cock.
