Dirty Looks Roadshow, a queer experimental film and performance series by New York publisher Dirty Looks, was at the Hammer Museum last night for a raucous two-and-a-half hour showcase of music, film, dance, drag, stand-up comedy, and–yes–a PowerPoint presentation.

Organized by Brooklyn-based artist Bradford Nordeen, the performance featured Jibz Cameron aka Dynasty Handbag, Narcissister, Colin Self, and Chris E. Vargas. Self opened the show with a set of three songs thrumming with deep bass, echoing melodies and sharp electronic rhythm. His set was followed by Chris E. Vargas’ satyrical PowerPoint presentation on MOTHA, the Museum of Transgender Hirstory and Art. The presentation, which included sound bytes of audience applause and plans for infinitely varied gender-specific bathrooms in the future MOTHA building, elicited plenty of real laughter from the present crowd. (As Nordeen stated in his introduction, “What medium could be better to queer than the utterly banal PowerPoint?”)

Next up was a series of films and live performances by Narcissister, who performed in multi-layered masks and merkins, transforming into countless characters and genders as she turned around, upside down, and sideways across the stage, shedding layers of clothing along the way. The roadshow ended with a hilarious stand-up set by Dynasty Handbag, who even sang a slurred, slightly psychotic rendition of Beyoncé’s ‘Drunken Love.’
